Apparently a lot of people are making a big stink out of the GTA series possibly being bumped up to AO in its next incarnation and almost definite stricter enforcement of the rules on allowing children to play or purchase Mature and Adult Only games.
I don't see where the objections are coming from, personally. Do we not have similar restrictions in place for books and movies...?

I've never seen video game age restrictions enforced in my life. Nor movie restrictions... And I've never heard of an age restriction on a book...

Touché.
Still, I've never seen an 18+ rating enforced on any book, movie or game in my life.
Unnecessary addendum: The only things I have seen affected by an age restriction would be alcohol and tobacco.

Canada's more lax about that stuff though. That kind of stuff is fairly regularly enforced in the US, and I think with good reason.

True, very true. I think the main reason so many people are in a tizzy about AO rated games is simply because sales would drop. Movies and books have always had such a barrier in effect, this is a realtively new restriction for a relatively new medium.
